FLAG Wheeler, George Elwood Madisonâ?¬??George Elwood Wheeler, age 91, passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2009. He was born Feb. 8, 1917 in Kankakee, Illinois, the son of Stephen and Jennie (Crichton) Wheeler. George married Betty Wolfe December 25, 1942 in Kankakee, IL. George was a music teacher and administrator in the Bloomington and Streator, Illinois school districts before retiring in 1976 to Madison, WI. They moved to Sun City Center, Florida, living there for 15 years before returning to Madison in 2004. Mr. Wheeler is survived by his wife, Betty of Madison; 3 children: Stephen Wheeler of Madison, Janet (Mark) Smukler of Cleveland, OH, Ali (Merlin) Voss of Middleton; 2 grandchildren: Kate (Chris) Wolfe of Boston, and Michael Smukler of Boston; and 1 great grandchild: Claudia Wolfe. He is further survived by nieces, nephews and friends. Memorial services will be held at a later date.
