Obituary

Kubicek, Robert E. "Kuby" MONONA-Robert E. "Kuby" Kubicek, age 80, formerly of Monona, passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2009, at the Peter and Ellen Johnson HospiceCare Center, after a long battle with congestive heart failure and a battle with lung cancer. He was born on Sept. 8, 1928, the son of Anton and Mary (Ziegler) Kubicek. He graduated from Edgewood High School in 1947. Bob was an active member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, where he enjoyed being an usher for many years. After graduation, Robert worked a short time for Oscar Mayer. He then became a salesman for Red Dot and Frito Lay until his retirement and tended bar at Village Lanes for many years. He married Rosemary (Huemmer) on September 17, 1949. Their marriage was blessed with six children. Robert enjoyed fishing, bowling, golf and playing cards. He is survived by his six children, Tom (Christie), Sandra (William) Hatch, Charles (fiancee, Kathe Klicko), James, Ronald (Lisa), and Carol; grandchildren, Kelly Peeples, Jason Hatch, and Lindsay, Kyle, Colin, Cody, Heather, Tyler and Morgan Kubicek; great grandchildren, Maddox and Ryland Peeples, and Evan Hatch; step grandchildren, Madeline Oie and Rachael and Lindsey Klicko; a brother, Joseph (Kathleen) Kubicek; a sister, Cordelia Smith; and many nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary; parents; grandchildren Deena and Jeffrey Hatch, and a sister, Jeanette (Jan) Meyer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5101 Schofield St., Monona at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009, with Father John Meinholz presiding. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., with a Rosary service at 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009, and at the church from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to HospiceCare, Inc. Thank you to all his friends and staff at Oak Park Place, and to Dr. Albert Musa and the staff at HospiceCare. He will be greatly missed by all those that he touched.
