Obituary
Photo Purin, Inez Ruth MADISONâ?¬??Inez Ruth Purin, age 93, of Madison, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009, in Madison from Parkinsons disease. She was born on Nov. 25, 1915, in Milwaukee, to Henry B. and Inez (Horn) Fleischer. Inez was especially proud of her Horn heritage; her great-grandfather, Frederick W. Horn served numerous terms in the State Legislature between 1848 and1893. She grew up in Milwaukee, graduating from Riverside High School in 1933 and earning a bachelors degree in education from Milwaukee State Teachers College in 1937. Immediately after graduation, Inez served as principal of Nicolet Elementary School in Kaukauna. On Feb. 3, 1939, she married Alexander Richard Purin, an art teacher and painter, to whom she was happily married for 64 years until his death. Throughout their marriage, Inez encouraged and worked with Alex to create and exhibit a wide variety of arts and crafts. For 40 years, they lived in Shorewood: Alex taught in the Milwaukee Public School System; Inez raised two children and taught in the Shorewood Schools. Later, as the front desk receptionist for 19 years, she enjoyed welcoming patients and staff to Columbia Hospital. After retirement, the couple built a home in Mount Horeb, where Inez became an avid and accomplished quilter and continued her artistic gardening. In her quiet way, she continued to contribute her arts and craft skills, and her gift for friendship to those she met in Mount Horeb and at the Meriter Retirement Community, where Inez and Alex moved in 2001. Inez was the loving mother of Richard (Barbara) Purin of Dodgeville and Karen (Henry) Thomas of Hastings on Hudson, N.Y.; sister of Marian F. Holtan; grandmother of Tim Purin, Amy Purin Horgan, Sarah Thomas Maldonado, and Richard Thomas; and great-grandmother of nine. She is also survived by four nieces and two nephews. Inez was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Janet L. Fleischer, her beloved husband, Alex; and her dear granddaughter, Lisa Marie Purin. We are grateful to the caring staff at Meriter, who provided support and friendship to Inez and her family as she progressed from independent living to a peaceful death.
