Obituary

Larson, Charles "Charlie" MADISON-Charles "Charlie" Larson, age 64, of Madison, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009, at Meriter Hospital. He was born on Jan. 29, 1944, in Rochelle, Ill., the son of Walter and Helen (Avey) Larson. Chuck served in the U. S. Army from 1964 until 1967, one year in Vietnam. He married Barbara Ehlers on July 23, 1966, in Evanston, Ill. Chuck graduated from UW-Whitewater in 1971. He worked for Houghton Taplick C.P.A. firm. Chuck then was employed by Madison School District for 26 years, retiring in June 2002. Over the years, he was very active at Monona United Methodist Church and served on numerous committees. Chuck was treasurer of the United Methodist Hospital Ministry Program, served on the board as president of Ecumenical Housing Corporation (EHC) and volunteered for Habitat for Humanity. He enjoyed spending time with his kids, grandkids and watching them play sports, and was an avid Chicago Bears and Cubs fan. Chuck also enjoyed golfing, traveling and visiting friends all over the country. He loved spending time in the summer at "WAHELA", the family cottage in Whitewater. Chuck is survived by his wife of 42 years, Barbara; daughter, Julie; son, Rob (Lori); grandchildren, Nikki, Sammy and Max Brown, Cassie Larson, and Denzel and Dayna Bailey; great-granddaughter, Nevaeh Powell; his mother, Helen Larson; brother, Brad (Jenny); sisters, Karen and Margie (John) Harris; mother-in-law, Babs Schultz; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Walter; father-in-law, Fred Ehlers; and step father-in-law, Edward Schultz. Funeral services will be held at MONONA UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 606 Nichols Road, Monona, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009, with the Rev. David Byers-Dent presiding. Visitation will be at the church from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 16, 2009, and also from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for a fund to be established for Chucks favorite charities. No farewell words were spoken, no time to say good-bye, you were gone before we knew it and only God knows why.
