Obituary
Meier, Mary K. MADISON-Mary K. Meier, age 62, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Sunday, Jan. 11, 2009, at Meriter Hospital, after battling cancer. She was born on Aug. 5, 1946, in Waunakee, the daughter of Peter and Gertrude (Uebersetzig) Miller. Mary graduated from Waunakee High School and continued education at School of Cosmetology. She married Vernon Meier on June 24, 1967, in Waunakee, at St. Johns Catholic Church. Mary worked for Styles by Dave in Waunakee for more than 20 years cherishing her friendships with all her coworkers and clients. After her cosmetology career, she continued to help many others with basic needs in their homes which developed into lasting friendships with many dear friends in the Maple Bluff/Cherokee area. She enjoyed her flower gardens, relaxing in her pool and her precious time with her grandchildren; she loved being a grandma. Although her time was short with them, she left many wonderful memories and traditions that will be carried on. Mary is survived by her husband of 41 years, Vern; daughters, Dawn (Brian) Hass of McFarland and Kim (Kevin) Koch of Cottage Grove; grandchildren Kayla, Kolton and Brandon; siblings, Pete (Betty) Miller of Wisconsin Dells, Joanie Faust of West Virginia, and Dave Miller of Waunakee. Mary also leaves behind others that touched her life, including her dog, Candy; and a so called "second granddaughter," Hannah. She was preceded in death by her parents. A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009, at 3 p.m., with Chaplain Jody Whelan presiding. A memorial visitation will be at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the family or to a cancer research of your choice, in her memory. A special thank you to all staff and physicians at Meriter Hospital, 8th floor tower and Oncology Department at 1 S. Park St., Madison for their guidance and support during her struggles with this disease. Her kindness, beautiful smile and gentle touch will be missed by all. Just wanted you to know how sorry I am in the lost of your mother, wife, and grandma. Keep all your memories close to your heart and think of them often. Those are the memories that will help get you through this difficult time.
