Albert Severson

Severson, Albert "Al" ALBANY/MADISON-Albert "Al" Severson joined the love of his life, Ardys, on Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009, as a result of diabetes complications. Al owned and operated Severson Scrap Metals in Madison for 18 years. His business had the first city of Madison contract to recycle metals. Al retired from business in 1999 and moved to Albany, where he and Ardys bought and refurbished several downtown buildings. He was best known for his generosity. If Al had it, and you needed it, he gladly gave it without hesitation no matter what "it" may have been. He loved working outside whether it be scraping metals or mowing the grass. If Al was working, he was whistling his own tune that we all know and love. He has made many friends over the years. Als family would like to say a special thank you to Alfred Hauri and Tonya Sabinson for always helping to take care of his needs. You are the true meaning of friends. Also, to Lisa from Hospice, who took care of him and his wife, and who came to check on them even on her day off. They thought of her as family. Al is survived by two daughters, Joanne (Dan) Michaels of Brooklyn, and Kristi (David) Coker of Oregon; eight grandchildren, Robert Brill, Daniel Brill, David (Erica) Brill, Jenifer (Ryan) Slack, Jasmine (Ben) Runaas, Jason (Amanda) Coker, Jonathan (Cassie) Coker, and Jordan Coker; three beautiful great-granddaughters, Morgan, Shana and Peyton; a sister, Emelie of Madison; three brothers, Orville of Morrisonville, Duane of La Crosse, and Glen (Paulie) of Evansville; his cat, Trouble (who saved his life many times); and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Ardys; parents, Ben and Viola; and a sister-in-law, Betty. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 26, 2009. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park.
