Hildebrandt, Robert J. Madison/Middleton - Robert J. Hildebrandt, age 92, passed away on Saturday, December 27, 2008. He was born Oct. 6, 1916 in Madison, the son of Frank and Marie (Faber) Hildebrandt. Robert was raised by his uncle and aunt, Joseph and Barbara Hildebrandt, due to his parents unexpected deaths. He married Alberta Loeser on Sept. 14, 1940and raised their family in the Middleton area. Robert worked in construction as both iron worker and stone mason and owned the quarry used by Frank Lloyd Wright. He was renowned for his birch bark wren houses he built and enjoyed sports, especially golf, but enjoyed most the time with his wife and family. In addition to Alberta, his wife of 68 years, survivors include his children, Barbara (Dennis) Best of Madison, Michael (Linda) of Ellison Bay, Joanna (Curt) Adler of Madison, John (Suzanne) of Viola, Robert (Sandy) of Windsor, Thomas (Melissa) of Spring Green, Virgine (Leon) Luke of Arizona, Jerilyn (Ken) Howards of Newfoundland, Jeffrey (Peggy) of Madison and Scott of Mt. Horeb; 18 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, adoptive parents, his son James, three brothers and two sisters. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. BERNARDS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 7450 University Ave., Middleton on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008 at 11:00am with Monsignor Douglas Dushack presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will on Wednesday at the church from 10:00 am until the time of service.
