Robert Kriel

MADISON-Robert H. Kriel, age 88, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009. He was born on Jan. 3, 1921, in Watertown, the son of Robert and Olga Kriel. Robert served in the U. S. Army during World War II. On Dec. 26, 1952, he married Beverly Showers. Robert retired from the Dane County Highway Department. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post No. 481, in Madison. Robert loved NASCAR, fishing, bowling, camping and playing cards. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Beverly; sons, Robert Kriel of Rogers, Minn., Bruce (Gail) Kriel of McFarland, and Bryan (Kendra Kearney) Kriel of Morrisonville; a daughter, Bonnie (Nick Kranz) Kriel of Sun Prairie; four grandchildren, Scott, Carla, Tony (Christy Birkholz), and Jason; five granddogs, Akia, Rosa, Niki, Pepper and Twinkles; five step grandchildren; seven step great-grandchildren; a sister, Peggy Raynoha of San Diego, Calif.; and sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Robert was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, George, Karl and Henry; and sisters, Millie and Anna. A memorial gathering will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009, with military honors at 4 p.m. Well love you forever Grandpa!
