Massey, William F. "Bill" MADISON â?¬?? William Frederick "Bill" Massey, age 69, of Madison, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009, at the Johnson-Anderson HospiceCare Center in Fitchburg, after a year-long bout with cancer, surrounded by his loving family. Bill was born Feb. 3, 1939, in Dodgeville, to Allan and Helen (Adler) Massey of Barneveld. He married Nancy Dodge on Jan. 26, 1958, and they were married for nearly 49 years before his beloved wife died in November of 2006. They lived most of their adult lives in Madison.Bill grew up on his familys Iowa County farm and was a 1957 graduate of Barneveld High School. He worked at United Parcel Service, Manchesters and as a cab driver before beginning a long and illustrious career in the car business. His family, friends and cars were Bills passions. Bill worked for several automobile dealerships over the years and was in partnership with his brother Gary in Massey Auto Sales for several years. He most recently worked as a used car buyer for CWA in Schofield. Bill and Nancy helped found the Madison Vintage Auto Club in 1972. He was an antique car collector and enjoyed attending countless car shows and parades with his wife and auto club friends. Bill was known for his sharp wit and wry sense of humor. He maintained many childhood and early-adulthood friendships throughout his life. He made friends easily and willingly. He was also known for his stellar memory â?¬?? he could remember details about cars that he sold 20 or 30 years ago. Bill loved and was loved by many.He was a long-time member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Madison. Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy; his parents, Allan and Helen Massey; his mother and father-in-law, Marie and Leland Dodge; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Dauck; a brother-in-law, Richard Dodge; and a niece, Vickie Dodge. Bill is survived by five children, sons Michael (Robin), Madison, Scott (Patti), Manchester, N.H., Keith (Adriana), Landing, N.J., and Kevin (Shari), Chicago; daughter Joni Massey, Madison; brothers Gary (LaRetta), Windsor, Tom (Debbie), Nalcrest, Fla., and Jim (Anne), Barneveld; sisters Linda Hasbrouck (Karl), Bradenton, Fla., and Sandy Staley (Wally), Verona; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Beverly and Ken Brattlie of Barneveld; nine grandchildren: Justina, Andy, Caity and Hayden Olrick; Emily, Anna and James Massey, Brittany (Zachary) Bouschard and Andrew Linder; a special friend, Susie Kingsley; many nieces and nephews; and a tremendous number of friends and loved ones. The family would like to thank the staffs of the UW Hospital and the Johnson-Anderson HospiceCare Center for their compassionate and heartfelt care during this difficult time. Funeral services will be at TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH , 1904 Winnebago St., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009, with the Rev. John Ruppenthal presiding. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009, and at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday.
