Carol Morrison

Photo Morrison, Carol O. MONONA - Carol O. Morrison died on Thursday, January 8, 2009, after a long battle with Alzheimers. Carol was born on September 12, 1920, to Hannah and Christian Jensen in Racine. Carol was the youngest of two daughters. She grew up with an extended family of Danish-Americans who lived nearby. One of the uncles grew cabbage for Franks Kraut. Carol graduated from Park High School in Racine. She attended The Business College in Milwaukee where she studied political science. In 1941, Carol married Toke V. Kloe and in 1942 they had a daughter, Linda Margaret. Toke was killed during World War II in 1945. Carol and Linda continued to live in Racine with family. In 1953, Carol married Wayne G. Morrison and moved to Madison. Waynes family hailed from Morrisonville, also known as Frogtown, in Wisconsin. Daughters Cheryl and Rebecca were born in 1956 and 1962. The family built a home in Monona and Carol and Wayne lived in their wonderful white house on the corner for many years. Carol loved the outdoors. She loved to hike, camp and garden. The colors in nature and in her flower gardens were an inspiration the 1200 paintings she created. Carol took many painting technique classes, participated in juried shows and artist groups as she developed her skills and style as a painter. Carol believed that every person could appreciate and should be able to afford artwork. She felt passionately about many political and social issues and contributed to several charities. As long-time members of Trinity Lutheran Church, Carol and her family enjoyed the fellowship and friendship of many families. Birthdays and holidays were important to her. After the table prayer, everyone waited for Carol to chime "Var sa god" (Eat well) and it was time to eat. Having so many family still living nearby was something Carol treasured. Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne; her sister, Margaret; and her son, Brian. She is survived by her daughters, Linda (Edgar) Smith, Cheryl (Tom) Morrison-Weeks, and Rebecca (Steve) Kismohr; four grandchildren, Jenifer, Christopher, Mark and Emily; and five great grandchildren, Samuel, Sawyer, Bryn, Lily and Owen. There will be no funeral service or visitation. A celebration of Carols life will take place in the spring.
