Obituary

Klingelhoets, Muriel M. MONONA-Muriel M. Klingelhoets, age 87, of Monona, died on Friday, Jan. 2, 2009, in Madison, due to congestive heart failure. She was born on Dec. 8, 1921, in Turtle Lake, to John and Estella Leisz. After attending an elementary rural school, Muriel graduated from Turtle Lake High School and attended River Falls State College for two years, attaining a degree in rural education and teaching in the area for five years. In 1944, she was united in marriage to Ambrose J. Klingelhoets at St. Ann Catholic Church in Turtle Lake, while he was on furlough from the Army. Upon returning from the military, they moved to Madison and from there to Shawano, where Muriel continued to teach. After his transfer to Brookings, S.D., they started a family and in the following years six children were born. Eventually, her husbands employment took him to Madison, where they lived since 1954. Muriel was an active member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and its St. Anne Society. She returned to college at age 45 and earned her B. S. degree in education from Edgewood College in 1971. Muriel taught a total of 33 years, ending her teaching career in the Madison School District as a long term substitute. Other activities included 15 years as organizational leader of the Nichols Nuggets 4-H Club, Monona P.T.A. president, CCD teacher at Immaculate Heart of Mary, and Girl Scout leader. Her many interests included cooking and baking, reading, needle crafts, fishing trips with her husband, and her main hobby, traveling world wide and visiting more than 75 countries around the globe, in the past 25 years. Survivors include, her husband, Ambrose; a daughter, Kathy (Bill) Schoener of Crystal Lake; four sons, Pat (Nancy) of Madison, Robert of Madison, Paul of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Mark (Karyn) of Mount Home, Ark.; two grandsons, John and Michael of Monona; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Leisz Merle of Turtle Lake; and many nieces, nephews and special friends. Muriel was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son; a sister, Agnes Danatelle; and two brothers, Richard and Vernon Leisz. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. ANN CATHOLIC CHURCH, Pine St., Turtle Lake, Wis., at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009, with Father Dave Lusson presiding. Burial will be at St. Ann Cemetery, Turtle Lake. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, and also at the church in Turtle Lake, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday.
