Everette Pettey

Pettey, Everette MONONA/FRIENDSHIP-Everette Pettey, age 80, died on Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008, at the HospiceCare Center, Fitchburg, surrounded by his family. He was born Dec. 30, 1927, in a farm house in the Town of York, Dane County, to Wilbur and Irene (Damp) Pettey. On Feb. 14, 1954 he met the love of his life Lois Jane Engelberger. They were married on Jan. 28, 1955 and shared the last 53 years together. Everette worked for Monona Grove Schools from 1949 until his retirement in 1990. In 1953 Everette helped found the Monona Volunteer Fire Department. He was appointed acting Fire Chief in 1986, and was Fire Chief from 1987 until his retirement in 1995. Everette was a farm boy at heart and a great lover of nature and the outdoors. He had many hunting and fishing adventures all across the country. A talented mechanic, Everette was fond of anything with an engine from ATVs to snowmobiles to boats. He spent his retirement years enjoying the natural surrounds of Friendship, in the family cottage on the Roche-a-Cri Creek. He is survived by his wife, Lois (Engelberger) Pettey; daughter, Ronda (Jan) Pettey-Kucher; son, Randall (Tatiana) Pettey; son, Ross (Patricia) Pettey; daughter, Robin (Tim) Roe; eight grandchildren, Erek Kucher, Greta Kucher, Mary Panina, Jessica Pettey, Katherine Pettey, Jaci Pettey, Brandon Roe, and Carly Roe; and a large extended family. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Monona, at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 15, 2008. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family to establish a tribute to Everette at the Wisconsin State Firefighters Memorial, Wisconsin Rapids, the Monona Fire Department or the HospiceCare Center, Fitchburg. Everette was a quiet and humble man who dedicated his life to public service and his family, setting an example for all of us.
