Knobeck, Gerald E. OREGON Gerald "Jerry" Ervin Knobeck, age 72, died on Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008, at St. Marys Care Center in Madison after a brief battle with cancer. He was born on April 6, 1936, in the Township of Cottage Grove, the son of Adam and Mae (Crapp) Knobeck. He married Virginia "Ginny" Caruso on June 7, 1958, at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Madison. Jerry worked for several departments with the State of Wisconsin for 36 1/2 years. His last job with the State was chief of payroll for the Department of Transportation. He also prepared taxes for the business that he started, Knobeck Accounting Service, for almost 40 years. Jerry graduated from Sun Prairie High School and received a college degree from Madison Business College. He was a member of the Wisconsin Association of Accountants and served as a director. Jerry was also a life member of Elks Lodge 410 in Madison. He loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed fishing and golfing. Jerry bowled in mens and couples leagues in Oregon and McFarland and he never turned down a good game of cards. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Knobeck; a sister, Vivian Knobeck; three daughters, Janet (special friend Tom Gilland) Green, Elaine (Jeff) Anderson, and Karen (Greg) Jankowski; six grandchildren, Christopher Anderson, Kathryn Anderson, Rebecca Green, Nicholas Jankowski, Matthew Jankowski, and Andrew "AJ" Jankowski; and an uncle, Donald (Patricia) Hanky of St. Augustine, Fla.; He also leaves his three brothers-in-law, three sisters-in-law, three nieces, three nephews, many cousins and numerous friends. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Adam and Mae Knobeck; a sister, Florence Knobeck; father-in-law, Fred Caruso; mother-in-law, Lillian Caruso; and a brother-in-law, John Caruso. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at HOLY MOTHER OF CONSOLATION CATHOLIC CHURCH, 651 N. Main St., Oregon, at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008, with Father Bill Connell officiating. Burial will be at St. Marys Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008, at the church from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., and on Wednesday, from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials may be made to St. Marys Foundation for the Care Center Physical Therapy Department, Holy Mother of Consolations remodeling Fund, or to Apostolate to the Handicapped.
