Obituary
MADISON- Albert "Jimmy" Brom, age 87, passed away on Christmas Eve Day, 2008, surrounded by his family, after a long battle with Parkinsons Disease. He was born on August 9, 1921 to Albert and Mary "Molly" (McCabe) Brom of Arcadia. Jimmy attended St. Aloysius Schools and church in Arcadia. He married Shirley Brusveen on April 9, 1965, in Madison, at the Dane County Court House. Jimmy worked for 36 years doing road construction. He was also a bulldozer operator for Hank Raemisch of Middleton, and for Rueben Hoppman and Son of Madison. Jimmy was a member of Operating Engineers Union Local 139B. He worked for the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the Van Hies building for 21 years before retiring as custodial supervisor in 1990. Jimmy was a musician who played in a county band around the Arcadia area. He enjoyed old time and country music, dancing, playing the guitar, collecting old antique violins and belt buckles, going to flea markets and garage sale to look for antiques, and going out to eat at Tobys Supper Club. Jimmy was a fan of the Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Shirley; a son, Michael (Carolyn) Brom of Sun Prairie; step daughters, JoAnn (Gary Fuchs) Neis of Briggsville and Barbara (Gerald Boden Stein) Neis of Madison; four granddaughters, Therese Cline of Fremont, Ohio, Rachel Brom of Sun Prairie, Shauna Grubb of Madison, and Brittany Grubb of Madison; brother-in-law, Clinton (Betty) Brusveen of Jenison, Mich.; sister-in-law, Ann Brusveen of Tulsa, Okla.; any many nieces and nephews. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Richard Grubb; and two sisters, Eileen Olson and Marjorie Daffinson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. DENNIS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 505 Dempsey Road, at 12:00 noon, on Friday, January 2, 2009. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be at the church from 10 am until the time of service on Friday. Memorials may be made to the family, where they will contribute funds to the research on Parkinsons Disease and HospiceCare Inc. A special thank you to my wife, children, and granddaughters for all they did for me, and to Jean Bachhuber and staff at Oak Park Nursing Home, HospiceCare Inc., and the Dean Clinic Doctors. He will be missed by his family and many friends.
