Photo Tomlinson, Elaine B. STOUGHTON/MADISON- Elaine B. Tomlinson, age 69, passed away on Friday, November 28, 2008, at Skaalen Home, in Stoughton. She was born on February 27,1939, the daughter of Arthur and Irma (Bartz) Bates. She graduated from Madison East High School in 1957. Elaine married Dale Tomlinson in 1961. She worked at Frank Liquor Distributors as a clerk in data processing. Elaine enjoyed traveling and the theater, a highlight was traveling to New York City and seeing Broadway shows. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Stoughton Post #59. Elaine enjoyed spending time traveling with the Weekenders Club. During her husbands time in the Air Force, she lived in the Congo, Africa; Texas; and Maryland, among other places. Elaine is survived by her uncle Everett "Mike" Bates of Madison; a brother, William Bates of Brodhead;special nieces and nephews, Lynn (Wendell) Egeness of Stoughton, Diane (Kurt) Miller of Madison, Terry Brundish of Madison, Joy (Jeff) Gunderson of Stoughton, Mike Bates of Sussex, and Dan (Emily) Bates of St. Paul, MN; and God daughter, Charissa Hollyfield of Stafford, VA. Elaine would also like to recognize long time childhood friends, Ginny Frey, Judy Whiting, Jo Anne Hrubes, Janet McBreen, Kathy Macken, Joan Krause, Sharon Ciano, and Claudette Schmutzer. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Dale in 1991; special friend Darrell Thompson in 2002; and sister-in-law Jo Anne Bates in 2008. Memorial services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, at 11 a.m.on Wednesday, Dec.3, 2008. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday. Elaine had a special love for her pets. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Dane County Humane Society. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at Skaalen Home for their care of Elaine over the past two years.
