Obituary

Strand, Arthur "Art" MADISON-Arthur "Art" Strand, age 83, greatly loved husband, father and grandfather passed away on Wednesday evening, Nov. 12, 2008. He was born on Jan. 20, 1925, in Stoughton, the son of Arthur and Mabel (Kirby) Strand. Art served in the U. S. Air Force during World War II. He married DeLane Leske on Jan. 22, 1950, in Madison. Art worked as a route salesman for 25 years at Gardner Bakery and for Madison Metro as a bus operator for 17 years, retiring in 1990. Although never fully retired, he continued working at Erickson Auto Trim, helping Dee run her in-home daycare and later worked at Parkside Village. He was an avid Badgers and Packers fan and was a mean cribbage and euchre player. Art maintained his sense of humor until the very end. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dee Strand; a daughter, Sherrie Strand (Linda Covert); a son, Bob (Lisa) Strand; two granddaughters, Brittany and Lauren Strand; a sister, Mary (LaVerne) Hack; a brother, Harry (Elfrieda) Strand; and many friends. Art was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Doris Nelson, Ruby Stenjem and Alice Peterson; half-sister, Pearl Yurina; and a brother, Wayne Strand. A celebration of Arts life will be held at MESSIAH EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 5202 Cottage Grove Road, Madison, at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008, with the Rev. Jeff Vanden Heuvel presiding. Visitation will be at the church from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to HospiceCare Inc. A special thanks to Hospice for the care given to Art during his illness.
