Obituary

Danielson, Norman Melvin "Dan" BROOKLYN/ OREGON Norman Melvin "Dan" Danielson, age 73, died on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2008. He was born on July 8, 1935, in Edgerton, to Melvin and Althea (Salisbury) Danielson. After graduating from Cambridge High School, Norm enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served his country with great pride for four years. He attended Madison Business College, after which he decided to devote his life to law enforcement. For more than 30 years, Norm worked for the police departments of McFarland, Verona and Fitchburg. He also served as police chief of the small town of Brooklyn. Norm was also a U.S. Marshall for a number of years. After retiring from law enforcement in 1995, he went back to work part-time as bailiff for Dane County and Green County courthouses, when he was unfortunately forced to retire permanently, due to health reasons. Norms interests included spending quality time with his family and hunting on his family farm, which has been in the family for more than 150 years. He enjoyed spending time with his prized labs, and tinkering with his Model A and his old antique tractors. Norm, as he was affectionately called, was an avid sports fan. He never missed the chance to catch a Badgers, Packers or Brewers game. Norm was known for his dry sense of humor and his distinctive laugh. He is survived by his wife, Kathy Danielson of Oregon; children, Eric (Cassandra) Danielson of Edgerton, Norma (Troy) Kalscheur of Waunakee, Marla Danielson of Dodgeville, Pam Cook of Oregon, Russell (Lisa) Wangsness of Rudolf, Jeff (Jill) Wangsness of Tecumseh, Mich., and Jay Pulver of Brooklyn; grandchildren, Amber and April Cook of Oregon, Erica Wangsness of Madison, Brice and Grant Wangsness of Rudolf, Ben and Betsy Wangsness of Tecumseh, Mich., Jest Wangsness of California, Amanda Wangsness of Wisconsin, and Seth and Noah Kalscheur of Waunakee; brothers, Al (Pat) Danielson of Fort Atkinson and David Danielson of Jefferson; and son-in-law, Dave Beaver of Helena, Mont. Norm was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Deborah Beaver; a son, John Wangsness; and a sister, Dorothy Danielson. Funeral services will be held at HOLY MOTHER OF CONSOLATION CATHOLIC CHURCH, 651 N. Main St., Oregon, at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, with the Rev. Clara Thompson presiding. Visitation will be at the church from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at Prairie Mound Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions made be made to First Presbyterian Church, Oregon, HospiceCare Inc. or the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation. Norm lived a full and great life, surrounded by his loving family. We will forever miss our "Stormin Norman", who firmly anchored our family. He will be greatly missed and forever live in our wonderful memories of him.
