Penfield, Barbara K. MADISON Barbara K. Penfield, age 65, passed away peacefully, after a long, courageous fight with cancer on Sunday, Oct. 26, 2008. She was born on Sept. 14, 1943, in Dodgeville, the daughter of Arthur and Alma (Johnson) Penfield. Barbara worked for the state of Wisconsin, Department of Transportation, retiring in 2000. She loved football and basketball, and was an avid Wisconsin Badgers and Green Bay Packers fan. Barbara was an amazing bowler. She won the State Doubles bowling title in 1986. Barbara also enjoyed fishing and puzzles. She is survived by her longtime friend, Beverly Kraut of Madison; a sister, Patricia (Verl) Hannah of San Jose, Calif.; a brother, Arthur J. (Pam) Penfield of Sun Prairie; five nieces and nephews; seven great-nephews; and a great-niece. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Beverly Penfield in 2000. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008. Burial will be at East Side Cemetery, Dodgeville. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2008. Memorials may be made to HospiceCare Inc. A special thank you to the staff at Home Health United, especially Jean, for the care they gave Barbara.

I am so proud to have known Barb! Not only was she a great mentor but also a truly wonderful person. She seemed to be able to pick out the best in a person and expound on that! My sad heart truly goes out to the family and friends that she's left behind!
