Alma Rosten

Rosten, Alma Breiby STOUGHTON/MONONA-Surrounded by her family, Alma Breiby Rosten, age 99, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Oct. 27, 2008, at UW Hospital in Madison. She was born at home on Jackson St. in Madison, on April 13, 1909, the daughter of Lars and Emma Breiby. She attended Madison East High School and then went on to attend Madison Business College. She married Randolph Rosten in 1935 and they lived most of their 69 years together in the village of Monona. Alma was an active member of Bethany Evangelical Free Church and a charter member of Buckeye Evangelical Free Church. In recent years, she was the oldest member of Door Creek Community Church. For many years she served as treasurer of the family business, Capital Plating and Machine in Madison. Proud of her Norwegian heritage, she was a devoted homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved to garden, needlepoint, and was an excellent cook. She is survived by her son, John (Cheryl) Rosten of Midland, Mich.; four grandchildren, Debra (Harry ) Whitehorse of Monona, Ron (Barbara) of McFarland, Lisabeth Rosten of Howell, Mich., and Randy Rosten of Glacier, Wash.; two great-grandchildren, June Whitehorse of Monona and Thor Rosten of McFarland, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; her son, David Rosten; and her three brothers, Edwin Breiby, Norman Breiby and Leif Breiby. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Monona, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008, with Pastor Cal Steiner presiding. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Skaalen Nursing Home in Stoughton, WI or Door Creek Church in Madison, WI. The family wishes to acknowledge the staff at Heritage 2 West at Skaalen Nursing Home in Stoughton, for the wonderful care that Alma received from them during the last few years of her life.
