Obituary

Gordon, Edward Arthur MCFARLAND Edward Arthur Gordon, age 87, of McFarland, passed away on Monday, Oct. 13, 2008, at St. Marys Hospital. He was born on Sept. 27, 1921, in Jacksonville Township, Chickasaw County, Iowa, the son of Edward B. and Anna (Otteson) Gordon. Ed married Hanna Aasen on Nov. 10, 1944, at Our Saviors Church, in Boston, Mass. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War. During his service, Ed was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, China Service Medal and Republic of Korea War Service Medal. After World War II, Ed and Hanna settled in Madison, where he worked for Madison Gas and Electric Co. Ed worked at MG and E for 40 years until his retirement. He was with the company when they began doing television repair work and they ended that service the year Ed retired. He was a longtime member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Madison and after moving to McFarland, Hope Lutheran Church. Ed was also a member of the American Legion Post No. 534 and an active member of the Tin Can Sailors. He is survived by a son, Warren (Dixie) Gordon of Madison; three grandchildren, Debbie Gray of Portage, Susan (Paul) Oftedahl of Cottage Grove, and Linda (Mark) DeCoux of Owatonna, Minn.; four great-grandchildren, Corey, Courtney, Robert and Daniel; three brothers, John, Jim (Peggy) and Merle (Ann) Gordon; two sisters, Charlene (LaVerne) Cutsforth and Stella Alexander; and numerous nephews and nieces. Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Hanna; his parents; three children, Donald, Lois and Gerald; and two sisters, Ruth Duncan and Thelma Wignall. Funeral services will be held at HOPE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 3702 County Highway AB, McFarland, at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 17, 2008, with the Rev. Chris Lee-Thompson presiding. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008. Memorials may be made in Eds name to Special Olympics of Columbia County, 711 Cook St., Portage, WI 53901; or Alzheimers Association, South Central Wisconsin Chapter, 517 N. Segoe Road, No. 301, Madison, WI 53705. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff at St. Marys Hospital Cardiac Care Unit and Dr. Marshall Fields for their care and concern.
