Kathryn Nelson

Nelson, Kathryn C. MADISON Kathryn C. Nelson, age 84, passed away on Friday, Sept. 19, 2008, from melanoma surrounded by her family. She was born on Sept. 14, 1924, in Madison, to George and Lillian (Peckham) Franke. Kathryn was united in marriage to Richard J. Nelson on Aug. 26, 1950, in Madison. In addition to raising her six children, she worked many jobs including the University Department of Engineering and retiring from the U.S. Post Office in 1993. Kathryn was a longtime member of St. Bernard Catholic Church. She had a strong faith and enjoyed her volunteer work with the church. Kathryn was an energetic woman who enjoyed her close knit family. She enjoyed fishing, hunting, flying, spending time at the cabin, boating, going on motorcycle rides, and traveling. Kathryn is survived by Richard J. Nelson; six children, Susan (Stuart) Thomas, Holly (Joe) Moreth, Tim (Agnes Nellen) Nelson, Rod (Christina) Nelson, Nancy (Darryl) Massey and Bonnie Nelson; five grandchildren, Matt (Nancyanna) Thomas, Kara Thomas, Melissa Massey, Rylan Nelson, Reanah Nelson; two sisters-in-law, Florence Franke and Marilyn Franke Lemens; many cousins and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter and Paul; two nieces, Paula and Patti; and her parents. A Memorial Mass will be held at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2450 Atwood Ave., Madison, at 3 p.m., on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008, with Monsignor Michael Hippee presiding. Visitation will be at the church from 1 p.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday. Memorials may be made to St. Bernard Catholic Church.
