Hughes, Irene H. LOVES PARK Irene H. Hughes, age 84, died peacefully at home surrounded by family on Saturday Oct. 4, 2008. Irene Hazel Peterson was born on a farm east of Blue Mounds on Feb. 16, 1924, weighing less than 2 lbs and incubated in a cigar box next to a wood stove. She was the daughter of Selma (Jornby) Peterson Hayes Hauge. She married Hugh A. Hughes on Dec. 18, 1946. He died on March 15, 1975. She spent a life of devotion to her family, dogs, birds and squirrels. Irene leaves many loving memories to her children: Roy (Sue) Hughes of Monona; Raymond (Pamela) Hughes of Loves Park, Ill; Hugh David (Pam) Hughes of Sumterville Fla.; Barbara (Leonard) Lawson of Berryville, Va., Gary Hughes of Houston, Texas, Donald (Lexie Bowlds) Hughes, of Rockford, Ill.; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren plus two on the way and one great-great-grandchild. She is survived by her sister, Donna (David) Dybdahl of Black Earth; brother, John (Teresa) Hayes of Poynette; brother-in-law, Kenneth Johnson of Black Earth; sisters-in-law, Doris Hayes of New Glarus, Charlotte Rusch of Muskegon, Mich., Bernice Hughes of Sun Prairie, Ethel (Howard) Rohr, Elsie (Joe) Balsamo, and Dorothy (Dick) Borchardt, all of Madison; numerous nieces; nephews; and special friends, Jerry and Joann Greenlee and their children Lisa and Robert; and long time neighbor, Lois Vincer. Irene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Hugh; brother, Charles Hayes; four sisters, Dorothy Mikalowskas, Helen (Mike) Banovez, Lillian (Glen) Lokken, and Ruth Ann Johnson. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Oct.7, 2008, at 11 a.m. at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive with Irenes grandson, Pastor Hugh Bradley Hughes presiding. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of the service at the funeral home. The family would like to thank the caring staff at Swedish American Hospital. Memorials may be made to the family for a future designation.
