Marcia Stankevich

Stankevich, Marcia J. MADISON Marcia J. Stankevich, age 58, of Madison, died peacefully of myotonic muscular dystrophy, on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008, surrounded by her loving children and family, at UW Hospital, TLC Care Unit. She was born on May 6, 1950, in Madison, the daughter of George and E. Louise (Keenan) Stankevich. Marcia graduated from Madison East High School in 1969. She earned a bachelors degree from UW-Madison in history and went on to fulfill her dream of becoming a registered nurse. Marcia was married to C. Patrick Smith, her loving husband, on May 31, 1975 and divorced in 1998, but remained friends. She touched many hearts working in the Pediatric Unit at Meriter Hospital for about 30 years. After leaving Meriter, Marcia continued her nursing through home health care. Many thanks to Marcias sister Carol, for her loving care and support throughout her illness and being there for her and her children. Marcia is survived by her children, Ryan and Christopher Smith; loving ex-husband, C. Patrick Smith; her parents, George E. and E. Louise Stankevich of Madison; brother, David D. (Gerilyn Schmidt) Stankevich, and their three children, Kelly (Brian) Tetting, Adam Stankevich, and Steven Stankevich; two great-nephews, Braden and Ethan Tetting; sister, Carol A. Rolfe, and her three children, Ashley Rolfe, Emily Rolfe and Max Rolfe; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her aunt, Dorothy Keenan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2450 Atwood Ave., Madison, at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008, with Monsignor Michael Hippee presiding. Visitation will be at the church from 3 p.m. until the time of the service. Special thanks to the wonderful staff at the UW Hospital, Dr. Woods, Courtney, Amanda, Lisa and Jason for their care. Her long time Doctor, Barbara Stowe-Carpenter, the staff at City View Nursing Home, and Harbor House. We will miss you dearly, we love you.
