Obituary
Selstad, Clarence E. MADISON C.E. "Slim" Selstad, age 85, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008, at HospiceCare in Fitchburg. He was born on Feb. 14, 1923 in Cottage Grove, the son of Peter and Martha (Quam) Selstad. Clarence graduated in 1940 from Madison East High School and was an army veteran of World War II. He married Carol L. Schroeder at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa on Sept. 6, 1952. Clarence and Carol owned and were the operators of Monona Motors, before retirement in 1988. They enjoyed traveling and visiting their sons and families until health problems restricted them. Clarence is survived by two sons, Mark of Pewaukee and Peter (Deborah) of Colgate; as well as his daughter-in-law, Kathy of Snellville, Ga.; and three grandchildren, Christopher and Courtney of Snellville, Ga. and Amy of Colgate. He is also survived by one sister, Eleanor and her husband, Charles Sutcliffe of Madison; as well as two nephews; and a niece. Clarence was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Carol; his eldest son, Craig; his parents, Peter and Martha; Carols parents, Charles and Clara Schroeder; as well as a sister, Edith, and her husband, Harold Beckman. Services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, on Monday, Sept. 22, 2008 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Brad Homan presiding. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. The family wishes to thank Dr. Musa and the staff of HospiceCare. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Saviour Lutheran Church or HospiceCare in Slims name.
