Obituary

Grosch, David L. MAZOMANIE David L. Grosch, age 69, died on Monday, July 28, 2008, at the HospiceCare Center in Fitchburg, after a year long battle with esophageal cancer. He was born on April 16, 1939, in Manchester, Tenn., the son of William M. and Ada Mae (Grove) Grosch. David left home at age 16, moving to Elkhart, Ind., where he met the love of his life, Josephine Cataldo. David and Josephine were united in marriage on Sept.2, 1961, at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church in Elkhart. David earned his B.S. and M.B.A. at Indiana University, Bloomington, where he graduated at the top of his class. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Korea during the Pueblo Crisis and then in Vietnam where he returned home with the rank of captain. While in Vietnam, he was especially happy to have worked closely with the war orphans to help improve their situation, bringing healthcare, playground equipment, and general respite. Davids love of furniture and design led to a career that included owning a furniture distribution company, working in retail management, and restoring antique oak rocking chairs manufactured in Wisconsin. Lucky enough to retire at age 50, David and Jo built their dream house on 55 acres of land in the town of Berry. David had a vision of a sanctuary for birds, wildlife, and family. He fulfilled this vision, building a 200 foot rock wall, a bird waterfall/pond, and large perennial gardens. A modest and private family-oriented man, David devoted much of his energy to caring for his wife, daughter, and grandsons. David is survived by his loving wife, Josephine; a daughter, Mary Michelle Grosch (Bob White) of Middleton; two grandsons, Nicholas J. and Noah M. Friedlander; a brother, Horace M. Grosch; and three sisters, Brainard Bonner, Nazaretta Finney, and Lulabelle Lowery. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, William Morris and Clinton Grosch. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. MARTINS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5959 St. Martin Circle, Martinsville, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008, with Father Bud Hollfelder presiding. Burial will be in St. Martins Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 1, 2008, at the GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL HOME, 7435 University Ave., Middleton. Friends may also call on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Pamela Olson, Dr. David Hei, Donna Petty Valenzuela, R.N., Dr. Tracey Weigel, Dr. Aaron Chalmers, and Dr. Mark Ritter for their wonderful care and compassion. They would also like to extend their deepest gratitude to the HospiceCare West and Inpatient teams-in particular, Rebecca Parkes, M.S.S.W., Donna Hiller, R.N., and Adelle Nack, R.N.
