Shirley Mathison

Mathison, Shirley Mae MADISON Shirley Mae Mathison, age 72, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on Aug. 28, 1935, in Madison, to Martha (Kelly) and Fred Ream. She grew up in Madison where she met the love of her life Don Mathison. The two were married on Jan. 9, 1954, in Madison. Shirley was a member of St. Patricks Catholic Church. She was a loving mother and grandmother. Shirley spent her years raising a family and taking care of her two grandchildren who were her pride and joy. She enjoyed playing bingo with her sister, Marie and niece, Vicki. Shirley is survived by her two daughters, Sharon (Jim) Capacio and Susan Wohlers, both of Madison; two sisters, Donna Schmelzer of Loganville and Marie Hale of Madison; two precious granddaughters, Kristina and Ashley Capacio; and many relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Don; and son, Duane. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. PATRICKS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 404 E. Main St. Madison, on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. with Monsignor Kevin Holmes presiding. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to HospiceCare, 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, Madison, WI 53711. The family would like to thank Dr. Kolie and Dr. Huie for their wonderful care, and HospiceCare of Madison; the east side team of Patty, Nancy, Erica and especially Laura, who made her journey home pain free and peaceful. Mom, thanks for always being there for me and being my best friend. I will miss talking with you everyday and going for turtle sundaes. You will be in our hearts forever. We love you!
