Obituary

Rowe, Lena Fredericka OREGON Lena Fredericka Rowe, 90 years young, passed away on Wednesday, June 11, 2008, at the Sienna Crest Assisted Living Center in Oregon. She was born on Sep. 23, 1917, in Beloit, the first of four children of Fred and Marie Kehrli. Lena was a 1936 graduate of New Glarus High School and she married William T. Rowe at the Holy Mother of Consolation parsonage on the Feb. 20, 1941. They farmed in rural Oregon before moving to the village in 1952. Lena retired from the Wisconsin Department of Motor Vehicles in 1981. Upon her retirement Lena enjoyed bowling in three different leagues. Lena also enjoyed sporting events including horse races, Brewers Baseball, all UW Badgers events, and lively card games. She was a member of neighborhood card clubs for decades. Her fishing skills were exhibited many times and she was always ready for another opportunity to catch a "big one." She loved spending time at the family cabin on the Wisconsin River. Lena was a member of Holy Mother of Consolation Catholic Church located in Oregon and held many offices in the Alter and Rosary Society. She was also involved with the Holy Name Seminary. Her community activities included serving as an Oregon Village board member, volunteering at the Oregon Grade School, Oregon Senior Center and Senior RSVP program. Lena is survived by her daughter, Nancy M. (Norman) Hoesly of Cambridge, Ill.; son, William E. (Victoria) Rowe of Middleton; grandchildren, LaNae M. (fiancé, Michael Warnecke) Rowe and Phillip E. Rowe (friend, Crystal Redfield); sister, Hilda; brother, Frederick; and many nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, other family members, and caregivers. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant daughter, Patricia; and brother, Erwin. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at HOLY MOTHER OF CONSOLATION CATHOLIC CHURCH, 651 N. Main St., Oregon, on Saturday, June 14, 2008, at 10 a.m. A visitation will be held at the church on Friday, June 13, 2008, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. and also at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until time of the service. In lieu of flowers, the family would encourage you to visit and enjoy one of your own friends or family members whom you have not seen for some time. The family would like to thank the many outstanding, personal, loving caregivers at Sienna Crest and Hospice. You have allowed Lena to enter Heaven with dignity.
