William Blaney

MADISON-William B. "Bill" Blaney, age 81, passed away on Wednesday, July 16, 2008. He was born on Oct. 4, 1926, in Madison, to Burdette and Margaret (Gregson) Blaney. Bill served in the U. S. Navy during World War II. He married Elaine Wangness on June 24, 1950. Bill owned Independent Oil Co. from 1964 until 1984. He was chairman of the town of Madison from 1974 until 1980. Bill and Elaine retired to Florida, once he sold the oil company. He enjoyed boating, fishing, snowmobiling, and vacationing at his home up north. Bill is survived by his daughter, Mary Blaney; son, Duane (Cheryl) Blaney; grandchildren, Brandon, Gehl and Yvonne; brother, Edward (Shirley) Blaney; and brother-in-law, William Simpson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine; son, William Jr.; parents; grandson, Robert; and sister, Virginia Simpson. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 26, 2008. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at Sunset Memory Gardens, with military rites conducted. Memorials may be made to HospiceCare Inc.
