Born near Leola, S.D., on Aug. 4, 1912, to Michael and Natalia Schwarz, Gen fondly remembered their Salem, Ore., fruit farm and playing in the woods. The family then moved to Mazomanie in 1926. They raised six children on their Cross Plains dairy farm. She enjoyed reading, playing the piano and accordion, traveling, saving stories and researching family history. Gen was a caregiver of her parents, husband, brothers and grandchildren. Gen is survived by her children, Rosie Meinholz (Larry Hochman) of Madison, Virginia (Eldon) Boehm and their children Kimberly and Matt of Madison, Marvin (Nancy) and their children Jeff, Kevin (Cassie), Barry and Tricia of Cross Plains, Vernon (Vicky) and their children Philip, Laura and Joe of Loganville, and Norman of Madison; two brothers, Louis (Jeanette) and Anthony Schwarz; three sisters, Gertrude Ripp, Lucille Jamieson and Mary Anne Wilhelm; and several nieces and nephews. Gen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Anthony in 1980; their daughter, Sharon in 2004; brothers, Ed and Joe; and sisters, Adeline and Frances. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. FRANCIS XAVIER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2947 Thinnes St., Cross Plains at 5 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2008, with Father Thomas Kelley and Father John Meinholz presiding. Burial will be in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery. Family and friends may call on Thursday from 3 p.m. until the time of the service at the church. The family wishes to extend a thank you to all who helped Mom these past years, especially the caregivers from Harbor House, HospiceCare Inc. and Sister John Rose Acker. Memorials may be made to the St. Francis Endowment Fund. Mom, well miss your smiles and stories. You taught us so much over these years.
