Edwin Everson

Everson, Edwin L. MADISON Edwin Lloyd Everson, Sr., age 81, entered into the light of Jesus gate on Friday, June 20, 2008, surrounded by his loving family. Edwin was born in Crawford County, Wis. on Oct. 29, 1926, the son of Elmer and Lena Everson. He married Eloda Mae Brockway on April 16, 1948, in Decorah, Iowa. They farmed together for three years in Crawford County before moving to Madison where they continued their 60 years of marriage. Six children were born from this union. Edwin worked for the Wisconsin Foundry for 20 years and 18 years at Madison Gas and Electric. Edwin is survived by his loving wife, Eloda; children, Edwin Jr. (Joan), Merlin (Vicky), Rodney (Veronica), Karen (Ken) Mecum, and Allan (Sue); 18 grandchildren; and was known as "Big Papa" to 25 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eleanor Everson and Judy Strnad; daughter-in-law, Janet Everson; son-in-law, Lonnie Mikkelson; special friend, Don Charles Skaugstad; and many friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Lena; two brothers, Otto and Leonard Everson; and daughter, Cheryl Ann (Everson) Mikkelson. Funeral services will be held at LAKEVIEW LUTHERAN CHURCH, 4001 Mandrake Road, Madison, on Tuesday, June 24, 2008, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Ron Mock presiding. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, on Monday, June 23, 2008, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. The rock of our family will be remembered for his stories, jokes and friendships. He loved the outdoors , farming, fishing, hunting, woodcarving and the beauty of a horse. Our gentle giant will be missed by all. I wont be far away, for life goes on. Just listen with your heart and you will hear, for my love is always near.
