He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Leillian "Lee" Cummings; three children, Michael (Cindy) Cummings, Diane (Greg) Curwen, and Cheryl (Tom) Bumgarner; his grandchildren, who were very dear to him, Scott Showers, Jodelle Baker (fiancé, Mike McBee), Todd (Shari) Showers, Laurie (Larry) Geary, and Stacey Bumgarner; and eight great-grandchildren, David Horne, Tyler, Megan, Mallory, Rachel, Sydney, and Nicholas Showers, and Lexis Geary. A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 16, 2008, with military rites conducted. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Private burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare Inc. A very special thank you to Laurie, Larry, and Lexis Geary for lightening Johns load and his life the past few years. They made it possible for John and Lee to continue living in their own home. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the doctors, nurses, and staff of HospiceCare, the Ellen and Peter Johnson Residence Center, who not only understand care and compassion, but live it each and every day. They are a blessing to us all.
