Donald Bates

Bates, Donald C. OREGON Donald C. "Don" Bates, age 84, of Oregon, passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at the HospiceCare Inpatient Unit. He was born on Feb. 16, 1924, in Sauk County, the son of Albert and Ethel (Solem) Bates. Don served in the United States Air Force as a pilot on a B17. While he was in the service, he married Bonnie Korbein on Jan. 24, 1945, in Madison. Together they started their hairdressing business, BonDon Beauty Salon, in Oregon. Don was a member of the Wisconsin Hair Fashion Committee and the National Hair Fashion Committee, and taught hairdressing throughout the United States. He was also a member of the Stoughton Country Club for 50 years. Don is survived by his wife, Bonnie of Oregon; daughter, Kelle Bates of Palm Desert, Calif.; a sister, Marlene (Joe) Rose of Sunland, Calif.; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and daughter, Shelle in 1966. Private memorial services will be held at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL HOME, 431 Soden Drive, Oregon, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 6, 2008, with the Rev. Paul Markquart presiding. Inurnment will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Monday, May 5, 2008. Memorials may be made to the family for a fund to be established at a later date.
