Alta Jensen

Jensen, Alta OREGON Alta Jensen, age 98, passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at the Sylvan Crossing at Chapel Valley in Madison. She was born on Jan. 28, 1910, in the town of Oregon, the daughter of Henry W. and Lura (Sholts) Dreher. A 1928 graduate of Oregon High School, she went on to earn her teaching degree from the Milwaukee Teachers College. Alta helped establish kindergarten programs and taught for more than 34 years in various area schools including Mount Horeb, Frank Allis in Madison, Brooklyn and Oregon. Alta was united in marriage to Leslie Jensen on Aug. 21, 1937, in Milwaukee. He preceded her in death in 1972. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and active with its organizations. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for more than 50 years. Alta enjoyed gardening and sewing, but most loved her time spent with her family. She is survived by a son, Jerry (Janine) Jensen of Oregon; a son-in-law, Gary Schmitz of Madison; two grandchildren, Julie Schmitz of Jacksonville, Fla., and Karen (Jeff) Spohn of Bailey, Colo.; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Dreher and Lois Krajeck; and many nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to her husband, Leslie Jensen, she was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Anita Schmitz on March 16, 2004; a brother, Henry Dreher; and a sister, Eula Berger. Funeral services will be held at the FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 172 N. Main St., Oregon at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 3, 2008, with the Rev. Clara Thompson presiding. Burial will be in Prairie Mound Cemetery. Family and friends may call on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Building Fund.
