Obituary
Birkett, Elmore F. MONONA Elmore F. Birkett, age 85, passed away on Friday, April 11, 2008. He was born on Dec. 24, 1922, in Pierce County, the son of Matt and Gertie (Larson) Birkett. He married Ruby Brathol on Aug. 23, 1952, in Baldwin. Elmore served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946 in Germany, France, and England during World War II. He worked for Ameritech formerly Wisconsin Bell, for 38 years, retiring on Dec. 1, 1985. Elmore enjoyed sitting on his driveway shooting the breeze, and Sunday popcorn nights with the neighbors. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7591. Elmore enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, watching them for many years. Elmore is survived by his wife, Ruby; daughter, Debra Phillips; two granddaughters, Miranda (fiancé, Chris Schulenberg) Phillips and Kayla Grueneberg; brother, George (Doris) Birkett; sisters-in-law, Violet Hopkins and Adelaide Brathal; brother-in-law, Raymond Brathol; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Dennis; and son-in-law, Greg Phillips. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, on Wednesday, April 16, 2008, at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday, April 15, 2008, from 4 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. He will be sorely missed by his family, friends, neighbors, and all who knew him.
