Zelda Smith

Smith, Zelda M. MADISON Zelda M. Smith, age 77, of Madison, passed away on Friday, April 11, 2008, at HospiceCare Center, Fitchburg. She was born on Jan. 26, 1931, in Richmond, Ky., the daughter of Clarence and Ada (Lewis) Davidson. She married Oral "George" Smith on Nov. 11, 1950, in Madison. Zelda enjoyed her volunteer work at the Atwood Community Center, where she cooked and served meals for the needy. She was a member of the Model A Restorers Club and the Capital City Model T Ford Club. She and her husband drove their antique vehicles in parades and other events all over Wiscosin. A devoted mother and grandmother, Zelda always put the needs of others before her own. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially cooking and doing crafts with her grandchildren. Zelda is survived by her husband, Oral "George" Smith; five children, Gale Smith of McFarland, Connie (Gary Benning) Smith-Benning of Geneseo, Ill., Greg Smith of Sun Prairie, Scott Smith of Wausau and Brad (Barb) Smith of Deerfield; siblings, Jean (Steve) Montgomery of Champaign, Ill. and Joe (Hazel) Davidson of Derrtown, Ohio; and eight grandchildren, Alan, Mike, Eric, Michael, Niki, Heather, Zachary and Emma. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Ruth Jacobs; and brother, Ray Davidson. Funeral services will be held at OUR SAVIOURS EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1201 Droster Road, Madison, on Monday, April 14, 2008, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Bradley Homan presiding. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens. A visitation will be held at the church on Sunday, April 13, 2008, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association or to HospiceCare.
