Margaret Martens

Martens, Margaret Winifred "Peggy" MADISON Margaret Winifred "Peggy" Martens, age 82, of Madison, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 7, 2008, after a brief illness. She was born on Jan. 1, 1926, in Fraser, Colo., the daughter of E. Fred and Charlotte (McClanahan) Watts. Margaret grew up in Denver and graduated from St. Lukes Hospital School of Nursing Training in 1947. She was united in marriage to Ralph J. Martens on May 26, 1947, in Denver, Colo., and they made their home in Madison. Margaret retired as a registered nurse from University Hospital in 1984. She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church and a volunteer for the American Red Cross. Margaret is survived by her husband of 61 years, Ralph; four children, Susan (Harold Brown) Martens-Brown, Connie (Barry) Ganong, Lana and Jon Martens; four grandchildren, Erik and Heather (Melvin Pierce) Brown, and Carissa and April Ganong; and a great-granddaughter, Heavin Pierce. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Edward Watts; and a sister, Marjorie Granot. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, at 3 p.m., on Saturday, April 12, 2008. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. Peggy was beloved by all and will be greatly missed.
