Donald Doyle

Doyle, Donald V. BROOKLYN/ OREGON/ MADISON/ STOUGHTON Donald Vincent Doyle, age 98, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2008, at Nazareth Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born on a farm about one mile north of the village of Brooklyn, on July 24, 1909. Don was the son of John and Anna (Medlar OBrien) Doyle. He attended the Brooklyn Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1927. In 1932, Don was a graduate of Marquette University with a B. S. degree in civil engineering. On April 5, 1934, Donald married Evelyn Mary Bauer at St. Marys Catholic Church, in Durand. They were married 73 loving years. Don was an engineer at the Conservation Civilian Corps camp in Durand on erosion control (1933-1934), engineer with the Department of Transportation, Eau Claire (1935-1941), engineer with Conseor, Townsend and Associates on the construction of Truax Airfield in Madison (1941), engineer at the Forest Products Laboratory (1942-1969), and private practice engineering and land surveying (1969-1986). Don devoted his life to his family and to helping others. He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, St. Marys Court No. 1619, Madison Knights of Columbus Council No. 4527, ASAE (The Society for Engineering in Agricultural, Food and Biological Systems), American Congress on Surveying and Mapping, American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineering, National Association of CCC Alumni and Wisconsin Society of Land Surveyors. Don was village engineer for the village of Oregon for many years and a trustee at Holy Mother of Consolation Catholic Church in Oregon. He volunteered for a variety of service projects at both Holy Mother of Consolation Catholic Church, Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, and was a mentor at Operation Fresh Start. Don also was an avid cribbage tournament player, playing cards all over the United States. Donald is survived by his eight children, Donald (Sue) Doyle of Oxford, Ann (Donovan) Johnson of Brooklyn, Alice (Fred) Carson of Foley, Ala., Bernice (John) Owen of Madison, Patricia (Arthur) Owen of New Brighton, Minn., Mary (Dale) Adams of Jacksonville, Fla., Michael (Annette) Doyle of Peachtree City, Ga., and Denise (Ricky) Neath of Fitchburg; 37 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren, three more on the way; a great-great-grandchild due in May; and many OBrien relatives and friends. Donald was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn, on Nov. 28, 2007; his parents; half sister, Mary Elizabeth (Medlar) Farnsworth; half brother, John Medlar; and daughter-in-law, Jeanne Doyle. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at HOLY MOTHER OF CONSOLATION CATHOLIC CHURCH, 651 North Main St., Oregon, at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 17, 2008, with Monsignor Gerard Healy and Father Bill Connell concelebrating. Burial will follow at the St. Marys Catholic Cemetery, Oregon. A visitation for family and friends will be held in the gathering area at the church from 8:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Monday.
