Obituary

Soehnlein, Lillian J. MADISON Lillian J. Soehnlein, age 96, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Tuesday, March 18, 2008, at Oak Park Place. She was born on Sept. 19, 1911, in Preeceville, Saskatchewan, Canada, to Fred and Mathilda Strand. Lillian came to the United States and worked at Rayovac, where she met her husband, Raymond. They were married on March 14, 1936. Lillian later worked as a waitress for the Hoffman brothers at the original Hoffman House on East Wilson Street, Madison. She went on to work at Strauss Printing Co. and retired in March 1974. Lillian was most proud of becoming a United States citizen and a Catholic. She was a lifelong member of St. Bernard Catholic Church on Atwood Avenue, Madison. Lillian is survived by two daughters, Joan (Robert) Zerneke and Janice Brown; and two granddaughters, Sandra Grimm and Susan Cascio, that she raised as her own and they thought of her as their mother. In addition, she is survived by six other grandchildren, Lisa Maza, Eric Zerneke, Michael Neubauer, Jana West, Jessica Neubauer and Julie Walker; eight great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Verna Walker and Evelyn Phoenix; a brother, Bud Strand; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; her parents; son, John "Jack"; son-in-law, Dennis Brown; and seven brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, at 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2008, with Monsignor Michael Hippee presiding. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 2 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to either Oak Park Place Memory Care unit, to be used in their activity room or to HospiceCare Inc. The family wishes to give their sincere thanks to Mary Bruer and the entire staff at Oak Park Place Memory Care for the wonderful care and treatment of Lillian during her stay. It was truly her home and they treated her like family. Also, sincere thanks and appreciation to the HospiceCare staff, who made her passing so much easier for the family. "We will miss you dearly and may you rest in peace."
