Mary Holten

Holten, Mary MADISON Mary Holten, age 93, went to her Lord on Wednesday, March 19, 2008, at Karmenta Care Center in Madison. She was the beloved mother of Pamela Kincaid and Jaclyn Froelich, and the adored mother-in-law of Thomas Kincaid and Kevin Froelich. Mary was born to Adelaid and Henry Alston on May 27, 1914, the third child and only girl. She grew up in east St. Louis, Ill., and went to cosmetology school there. She met and subsequently married Forrest E. Holten on Sept. 21, 1942. Forrest went off to war and Pamela was born in December 1944. Jaclyn came along in November 1949. The family moved to a Chicago suburb in 1954, then to Madison in 1958. Mary was a successful hairdresser and opened her own in-home salon in 1965. She practiced for a total of 50 years before retiring. She was an accomplished, self taught pianist in the popular and honky tonk style. Forrest sang, she played, and they were always the life of the party. She was involved with and had been president of the Monona Business Womens Association for many years. An excellent bridge player, she won awards in some local competitions. Forry left this world in 1977, but Mary continued her love of life, family, and her strong Christian faith, which lifted her up. She was also preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Ben and Bill. She leaves behind her two daughters; sons-in-law; four grandchildren, Alison Kincaid (Michael) Kelly, Andrew Kincaid, Mariel (Kyle) Froelich Sellner, and Marla (her partner, Alison Burlingame) Froelich; and four great-grandchildren, Nicholas Kelly, age 16, Stone Kelly, age 12, Jade Kelly, age 9, and Cody Sellner, age 1. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, on Monday, March 24, 2008, at 2 p.m. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.
