Obituary

Lew, Patricia K. MADISON Patricia K. Lew passed away on Friday, March 21, 2008, at HospiceCare. She was born on June 28, 1924, in Wausau, the daughter of Harry P. and Meta Heiman Kane. After graduation from Wausau High School, she attended Lawrence College in Appleton before graduating from UW-Madison with a bachelors degree in sociology. Patricia was married to Harold Saville Lew on June 19, 1948, in Wausau. A pilot in the United States Air Force, he was killed on Sept. 6, 1962, during a training mission. During their marriage they lived in Dayton, Ohio; San Antonio, Texas; Honolulu, Hawaii; Madison (where Capt. Lew taught ROTC at UW-Madison from 1957 until 1960); and Boise, Idaho. Returning to Madison after his death, Patricia worked as a social work supervisor with Dane County Department of Health and Human Services until her retirement in 1984. Pat, as she was known to her friends, studied piano and music and had a lovely singing voice; her laughter was contagious. She was devoted to animals and especially indulgent toward dachshunds. Pat was a voracious reader and, in her "Irish moods," loved to recite poetry. A skilled and imaginative cook who was active in the kitchen almost until the end of her life, Pat was an avid bridge player and a prolific knitter. She loved her garden and birds, maintaining three bird feeders throughout the Wisconsin winters. Patricia is survived by her two daughters, Laurie Kane Lew (Robert Byer) of Los Angeles, Calif. and Patricia Saville Lew (Monty Schmidt) of Madison. She was greatly loved and will be much missed. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, John Edward Lew. Burial will be in San Antonio, Texas. I have missed Pat greatly since it was neccessary to put her Dachshund, Norton to sleep. She was a wonderful pet owner and an interesting and loving person. The thing that I will remember most about Pat aside from her warm heart was her stylish & signature accessories! We discussed her pins, her hats and jewelry at each visit to the clinic. She was a wonderful person. I was lucky to have met her.

My sincerest condolences to the friends and relatives of Pat Lew. From all accounts, she was an astonishing woman. I have no idea if this is appropriate but I would love to hear from one of her children since I am their half brother. In any event, I send my regard and concern for all who loved Mrs. Lew.
