Obituary

STOUGHTON/ OREGON Charles J. "Charlie" Curran, age 78, of Stoughton passed away on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008, at St. Marys Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was born on Feb. 21, 1930, in Chicago, Ill., the son of Charles and Catherine (Sharkey) Curran. Charlie graduated from St. Marys High School in Burlington. After graduating from high school, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Charlie married Mary Vogt on Oct. 9, 1954, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, in Lyons. He began working at Wisconsin Power and Light Co. after serving in the military and worked there until he retired. Charlie was also an auxiliary policeman with the Lake Geneva Police Department. He was a Paid Up for Life member of the American Legion. Charlie was a past commander of American Legion Post No. 327, Lyons, past Walworth County American Legion commander, Oregon EMS charter member, Stoughton Conservation Club member, Oregon Sportsmans Club member and Hunter Safety Course instructor, and member of Holy Mother of Consolation Catholic Church until moving to Stoughton. Charlie is survived by his wife, Mary of Stoughton; children, Ellen Curran of Stoughton, Fred (Lin) of Centerville, Minn., Rita Sperry of Stoughton, Cathy (Brian) Mogden of Edgerton, Chuck (Julie) of Cottage Grove, and Tony (Kate Hinner) of Tucson, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Rose Ellen Roesser and Mary Jane Chaney; brothers, John (Joan) Curran; and half brother, Tom Curran; AND many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Henry S. (Margie). A Memorial Mass will be held at ST. ANNS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 323 N. Van Buren St., Stoughton, on Saturday, March 15, 2008, at 11 a.m., with Monsignor Gerard Healy presiding. A visitation will be at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Inurnment will be at St. Francis DeSales Cemetery, Lake Geneva, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the American Legion, PO Box 388, Portage, WI 53901, for use at Camp American Legion.
