Buss, Clarence A. COTTAGE GROVE Clarence A. Buss, age 83, passed away Friday, Feb. 29, 2008, following a brief illness. He was born on Sept. 19, 1924, to Julius and Elsie (Kiesow) Buss. He was united in marriage to Margaret (Lund) Buss on Feb. 5, 1944, at St. Johns Lutheran Church, Madison. Clarence retired in 1986 after 36 years of service at Cenex in Cottage Grove. After retirement he, along with his wife and business partners, opened and ran the Miller-Bus Stop in Cottage Grove until 1995. He served on the Cottage Grove park board for many years and the Cottage Grove volunteer fire department for 57 years, attending monthly meetings until the time of his death. He was involved with Home Talent baseball for over 67 years both as a player and manager, and served on the Board of Directors until the time of his illness. In 1980, he was honored by having the Cottage Grove Firemens Park baseball field named after him, "Clarence Buss Field." He was a devout Packer and Badger fan, and one of his favorite pastimes was playing cards, especially euchre. Clarence was blessed with a sharp sense of humor. He enjoyed his family, including his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and would have been blessed with three additional great-grandchildren this year. Clarence is survived by his wife, Margaret, of 64 years; children, Carolyn Pohlman, Dennis (Debby) Buss, Becky (Alvin) Illgen all of Cottage Grove, and Larry Buss of Anchorage, Alaska; grandchildren, Cheryl (Randy) Schears of Deerfield, Scott (Stephanie) Pohlman of Cottage Grove, Douglas Buss of Phoenix, Ariz., Jered Buss of Anchorage, Alaska, Darren (Jessica) Buss of Anchorage, Alaska, and Ashley Webster of Sun Prairie; great-grandchildren, Heather Pohlman of Salem, and Zachary Buss of Anchorage, Alaska; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Elmer and Jim Buss; sister, Irene Hillebrandt; son, Roger Buss; and son-in-law, Gerald Pohlman. Services will be held at HOPE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 3702 County Hwy AB, McFarland, at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, March 4, 2008, with the Rev. Chris Lee-Thompson presiding. Burial will follow at the Cottage Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Monday, March 3, 2008. Also on Tuesday, from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Clarence was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle who will be deeply missed. We love you dad!
