Obituary

Harbort, John H. MADISON/ FRIENDSHIP/ WAUNAKEE John H. Harbort, age 83, passed away with his family by his side on his birthday, Sunday, Feb. 24, 2008. He was born on Feb. 24, 1925, in Madison, the son of Edward E. and Ella Harbort. John graduated from Madison East High School in 1942. Shortly after, he joined the U.S. Army Air Corps, as an airplane mechanic. While stationed in Kansas, he met his future wife, Dorothy Cady. They were married on May 12, 1946, soon after his honorable discharge. John was a member of Plumbers Local No. 167/ 75 for 60 years. He completed his plumbing career in 1987, after 22 years with UW-Madison. After retirement, Johns lifetime dream was fulfilled when they built a home on Roche A Cri Lake and wintered in Florida. After 16 years, when the lake home proved to be too much work, they moved to Waunakee. John and Dorothy enjoyed 62 wonderful years together. He was proud of his family and treasured the time he spent with them and his friends. John also loved times spent on the deck with Dottie, hunting and fishing with his sons, his special relationship with his daughter, and the times with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. John is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy of Waunakee; three children, Craig (Linda) Harbort of Sun Prairie, John C. (Debbra) Harbort of Sun Prairie, and Holly (Gary) Hustad of Cottage Grove; five grandchildren, Heather (Bill) Pellino of Waunakee, Chris (Amy) Harbort of Woodbury, Minn., Amanda (Beau) Brezenski of DeForest, Melissa (Noah) Nienstedt of Menomonee Falls, and Jared Harbort of Eau Claire; two great-grandchildren, Brennen and Ellyse Pellino; a sister, Ruth (Charles) Navratil of Madsion; friend, John (Pat) Cuccia; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Joyce (John) Myrold; a brother, Edward (Anna Mae) Harbort; and two nephews, Hugh Myrold and Edward L. Harbort. Funeral services will be held at MESSIAH LUTHERAN CHURCH, 5202 Cottage Grove Road, Madison, at 11 a.m., on Friday, Feb. 29, 2008, with the Rev. Jeff Vanden Heuvel presiding. Entombment will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008, and at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church, American Lung Association or to a donors choice.
