Mary Hans

Hans, Mary Jo MCFARLAND Mary Jo (Buechner) Hans, age 54, beloved wife, mother, daughter, and sister, went to be with God on Monday, Feb. 4, 2008. Multiple sclerosis took over her body, but it never conquered her mind or soul. Mary Jo was born on Sept. 3, 1953, in Madison, to Joseph and Hildegarde Buechner. She graduated from Edgewood High School in 1971, studied drafting at Madison Area Technical College and worked for several Madison area businesses prior to marrying Gregory Hans on Aug. 28, 1982. Together they raised their sons, Alex and Matt. Mary Jo was always active, her many talents included sewing, gardening, woodworking and refinishing, drawing, and cooking. She volunteered as an Emergency Medical Technician for the Village of McFarland, and was active in the McFarland Jaycettes. She was always lending a hand to friends and relatives for whatever they needed. Mary Jo was artistically gifted, and she loved music, movies, bowling, and her poodles, Charcoal and Toulouse. Mary Jo is survived by her husband, Greg; their sons, Alexander and Matthew; her father, Joseph Buechner; sisters, Barbara Unger and Rose (Mike) Boucher; brothers, Paul (Debbie), Mark (Mary), Steve (Janet) and Peter (Cindy); sister-in-law, Kris Wetzel; nieces, nephews, cousins, and great-nieces and great-nephews; as well as many devoted friends, especially Patty Schmelzer and Kathy Stoikes. She was preceded in death by her mother; and brothers, Karl and John. Funeral services will be held at CHRIST THE KING CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5306 Main St., McFarland, at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 8, 2008, with Father D. Stephen Smith presiding. Burial will be at Ward Cemetery, Fort Atkinson. Visitation will be at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison from 4:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2008. Memorials may be made to the American Red Cross or to the charity of the donors choice. The family would like to thank the caring and compassionate staff at Nazareth House in Stoughton, and Dr. Sandra Kamnetz.
