Obituary

Ring, Richard H. MARSHALL Richard H. Ring, age 78, of Marshall, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2008, surrounded by his family at Hospice Inpatient Unit. He was born on Aug. 11, 1929, in Madison, the son of Herman and Laura (Schuetz) Ring. Richard married Charlotte L. Zantow on Aug. 20, 1947, in Madison, at St. Bernard Catholic Church. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Richard also enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting and camping with family and friends. He was a musician with his brother, Don, for many years. Richard enjoyed traveling and performing with the orchestra and band. He owned and operated Ring Excavating, retiring in 1990 and continued working several part-time jobs. Richard was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus. During his time with the Knights, he served three terms as grand knight. Richard is survived by his wife, Charlotte, of 60 years; eight children, David L. (Jane) Ring, Steven R. Ring, Georgia C. Austin, Patricia S. Ring, Marita R. (Christopher) Kehl, Richard A. Ring, Teresa J. Ring and Christine M. (Art Stowell) Ring all of the Madison area; 15 grandchildren, Matt (DeeAnn) Ring, Kim (DJ) Daggett, Diane (Glenn) Ryder, Mike Ring, Jeffrey (Hazel) Austin, Adam (Erin) Frydenlund, Alexia, Joseph and Christopher Kehl Jr., Nick (Shauna) Strandlie, Jesse (Carrie), Jacqueline, Ricky Jr. and Rhianna Ring and Kelsey Jo Stowell; five great-grandchildren, Carson Ring, Gavin Ryder, and Kaylie, Kiah Frydenlund and Colton Ring; five siblings, Donald (Florine) Ring, Anita (Raphael) Ballweg, Darlene White, Betty Baker and Russell Ring; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held at ST. PATRICKS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 434 N. Main St., Cottage Grove at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2008, with Monsignor Raymond Kertz presiding. Burial will be held at Highland Memory Gardens. A visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, on Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday. The Ring family would like to extend a special thanks for the devoted care and support received from the Knights of Columbus, St. Patricks Parish and members, and the staff at Hospice.
