Obituary
Fregien, Suzanne B. MADISON Suzanne B. Fregien, age 57, beloved wife, daughter, mother, and grandmother, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008, at the Ellen and Peter Johnson HospiceCare Center, after a brave battle with cancer. She was born on March 8, 1950, in Burlington, the daughter of Harley and Wilma (Yahnke) Howe. Sue graduated from Racine Lutheran High School and attended Gateway Technical College in Kenosha, where she received her nursing degree in 1970. On Oct. 31, 1970, Sue was united in marriage to Gerhardt Fregien at St. Johns Lutheran Church, Burlington. Sue and Gerry lived on Hamilton Air Force Base, Novato, Calif., and Rochester, Wis., before settling in Madison in 1972. She was employed as an LPN at The Cradle, Waukegan, Ill., Mount Carmel in Burlington, and Oakwood Village, City View Nursing Home and University Hospital, Madison. In 1984, Sue and Gerry opened the Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy in Monona. She was a faithful member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Madison, for 35 years, where she was involved in Lydia Circle and Jesus Cares. Her strong Christian faith and love for her Savior was apparent to every life she touched. She enjoyed spending time with family, anniversary weekends in Door County, along with other recent travels to the Caribbean, Niagara Falls, and Mexico. Sue is survived by her husband of 37 years, Gerhardt "Gerry" of Madison; her mother, Wilma Howe of Rochester; her three sons, Todd (Christy) Fregien of Waukesha, Bradley (Rachel) Fregien of Madison, and Kevin (Rachel) Fregien of Windsor; five grandchildren, Riley, Olivia, Abby, Simon, and Gracie Suzanne; a granddaughter, Evalynn, who will be born in March; sister-in-law, Deb Howe of Plover; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family. She was preceded in death by her father, Harley in 1952; and her brother, Ron in 2002. Funeral services will be held at HOLY CROSS LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2670 Milwaukee St., Madison, at 11:30 a.m., on Friday, Feb. 1, 2008, with the Rev. Mark Bartels presiding. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday. Memorials may be made to the church or HospiceCare Inc.
