Donald Hackbart

Hackbart, Donald H. MADISON Donald H. Hackbart, age 69, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008, after a five year battle with colon cancer. He was born in February 1938, in Poynette, the son of Oscar and Laura Hackbart. Don graduated with honors from Madison East High School with the class of 1956. After high school, Don joined the U.S. Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in 1958. He worked for Oscar Mayer for more than 30 years. Don enjoyed golfing and was an avid Elvis fan. He was the "president" of the Slices Boys Club, and started monthly get-togethers with his cousins. Don was a quiet, loving, and caring person, yet a stranger to none. He is survived by his sisters, Donna and Karen; and many close friends. A celebration of Dons life will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2008, at 1:30 p.m. at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, with military rites being conducted. Following the burial a Happy Hour will continue at SLICES BAR and GRILL, 2417 Pennsylvania Ave., Madison. Visitation will be held on Tuesday at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the celebration of Dons Life at 1:30 p.m. Special thanks to HospiceCare Inc. and special friend, Linda Johnson.
