Obituary
Powers, Margaret A. "Peg" MADISON Margaret A. "Peg" Powers, age 88, died peacefully on Monday, Jan. 14, 2008, at St. Marys Care Center in Madison. She was born on Dec. 18, 1919, in Dodgeville, to Thomas and Mary Ellen (Sullivan) Fernan. Peg was married on July 24, 1937, to Elmer "Jake" Moon in Ridgeway. Jake preceded her in death on Oct. 8, 1966. She married James P. Powers, on March 17, 1972. Peg retired in March 1981, as the administrative assistant to the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, U.S. Department of Justice. She and Jim moved to Avon Park, Fla., in August 1982. For health reasons, they returned to Wisconsin in July 2001. Peg is survived by her two step-daughters, Bonnie Mackesey of Madison, and Patti (Bill) Murphy of Belleville; step-granddaughter, Kelli (Gene Schomberg) Murphy; two step-grandsons, Jeff (Erin Binder) and Steve (Sarah) Mackesey; two step--great-grandchildren, Noelle and Jason Mackesey; half-sisters, Elaine Havey, Donna Berg, and Janet Lovick, all of Madison, Roberta (Bob) Wharton of Casselberry, Fla., and Sharon Henry of New Orleans, La.; half-brothers, Thomas (Marlys), Edward, and Jack Fernan, all of Madison, and Jim Fernan of Reno, Nev.; and many much loved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Powers, in May 2007; her parents; brother, Bill Fernan; sisters, Mary Goldsmith and Marcella Murphy; half-sisters, Patricia Feeney and Corrine Guyer; step-son-in-law, Tom Mackesey; and beloved grandparents, Margaret and William Fernan, who took her at age two, along with her sisters and brother, into their hearts and home when their mother died. The family would like to give a special thanks to Rob Hennessey for his caring "taxi cab" services to Jim and Peg during their years back in Madison, and to the staff at St. Marys Care Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2450 Atwood Ave., on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008, at 11 a.m., with Monsignor Michael Hippee presiding. Burial will be at St. Bridgets Cemetery, Ridgeway. Visitation will be at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
