Obituary

Brandes, Barry A. WAUKEE, IOWA Barry A. Brandes, age 53, of Waukee, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008, in an automobile accident. He was born on Oct. 16, 1954, in Madison, the son of Ernest and Lois "Betsy" Brandes. Barry married Barbara Lochner in 1993. He was a loving father, who was a classic car enthusiast and loved his motorcycles. In his spare time, Barry enjoyed fishing, camping, and the great outdoors. He loved to listen to a wide variety of music. Barry loved to read, especially about history which led him to become a member of the 17th Century Club, where he learned the art of blacksmithing. He started his working career with Brandes Corporation, Madison. Barry later moved to New England working in management positions of various HVAC manufacturers. Later came a career change to working in the home improvement industry, most recently with American Siding and Window Systems, Des Moines, Iowa. Barrys retirement dream was to restore his 1940 Pontiac. Barry is survived by his wife, Barbara; son, Jason; daughter, Sarah; and siblings, Barbara (Dave) Dowling and Leigh (Mary) Brandes. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Betsy. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, on Friday, Jan. 25, 2008, at 6 p.m. A visitation will be at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family to be used as an education fund. Barry had a DJs voice and a booming laugh. He was a devout Packers fan, warm, sentimental, with a colorful sense of humor, family and friends were everything. So generous and loving, most often he had a twinkle in his blue eyes. We loved him very much. He is already missed.

I have some great memories with Barry and Barb from when they where on the East Coast. He always stayed true to his Packers, and we had some good ol' fun in the office at times. I'm glad I chance to know him.

Barry was such a terrific guy and I was so lucky to have you both at my wedding. I could tell in the brief time I had getting to know him how decent and caring he was and that he truly loved you, Barb. I'm so sorry for your loss -- words are simply inadequate. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
