Obituary
Hoekstra, JoAnn A. MADISON JoAnn A. Hoekstra, age 72, passed away at home on Friday, Jan. 4, 2008. She was born Sept. 20, 1935, the daughter of the late Adolph and Juliet Erb of Cottage Grove. She learned the value of hard work on the family farm milking cows and raising tobacco. After graduating from East High School, she was united in marriage to William G. Hoekstra, on March 11, 1955, and together they raised three children; Mark, Elizabeth and David. When her family was mostly grown she was employed by the Madison Water Utility and worked there for 23 years. JoAnn was a friendly, outgoing, generous person who embraced life to its fullest, sharing the joys of life with her family and friends. She opened her heart and home to anyone and everyone in need of an understanding friend or a warm meal. Being a natural athlete, JoAnn was active throughout her life, enjoying snow skiing, bowling and especially golf. She started golfing in Scotland at age 42 and developed a competitive passion for the game. In the State and local golf community, JoAnn was well known, achieving numerous awards and the ultimate, hole-in-one. Survivors include her husband, Bill; her children, Mark Hoekstra of Lincoln, Neb., Elizabeth (Mark) Fredenberg of Cottage Grove, David (Pam) Hoekstra of Sun Prairie; and five grandchildren, Bill, Zach, Luke, Brady and Sydney. Funeral services will be at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2008, at 1 p.m., with the Rev. John Swanson presiding. Burial will be at Cottage Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, from 11 a.m. until the time of service. The family would like to thank the many friends who enriched her life. Memorials can be made out to Bethel Lutheran Church or Hospice Care.

Bill and Family,
JoAnn was one in a million. She would always say 'Let's Boogie' and when I would ask her to make Lesfa (food) she would even mail it to me. She was a friend to all and someone who really cared. Bill she will always remain in your heart and soul.
